Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

An active pattern continues through the forecast period. A potent trough has shifted east of the region. On Tuesday night, temperatures will drop overnight, bringing snow to near Snoqualmie Pass level. Weak lingering convergence activity (focused from Snoqualmie to Mt. Rainier) should end while very weak orographic rain and snow showers should sustain along the west slopes of the Cascades as the next system approaches from the NW. Mt. Hood should receive sustained light orographic snow due to strong sustained winds overnight. Temperatures should cool, bringing snow levels to near Snoqualmie Pass by Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, light snow (and low elevation rain) should increase ahead of a frontal system arriving in the afternoon. Rain and snow will become moderate to occasionally heavy by afternoon. Snow levels are expected to be low enough that Stevens Pass, Mt. Baker, and Paradise are likely to pick significant snow totals by the end of the day on Wednesday. West winds will increase into the upper end of the moderate range for much of the Washington Cascades and should remain strong over Mt. Hood.

Wednesday night through Thursday morning, a stiff WNW flow will keep orographic rain and snowfall going from the mountain loop southward; the rain and snow amount increasing the further south you go with heavy snow accumulations continuing for Paradise and Mt. Hood. The rain and snow should shift into the Mt. Baker area late in the day on Thursday.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

Light post-frontal snowshowers should decrease Thursday night and will be very light on Friday through Friday night,  with weak ridging in place, but it no longer appears that we will get much sunshine along the W slopes of the Cascades on Friday. The next potent spring storm arrives on a WNW flow at lowering snow levels with rain, snow and wind likely increasing during the day on Saturday.
