Weather Synopsis for Tuesday & Tuesday

A potent trough is over the Cascades early Tuesday morning. A progressive flow pattern will move the trough east throughout the day, generally decreasing the precipitation forcing associated with the trough. Winds will shift W or WNW behind the trough and increase into the moderate to strong range in many locations, with the strongest winds in the Hood and south Washington Cascades areas where the most lift and forcing associated with the trough will continue to bring heavy rain and snow to the Mt. Hood area. Convergence zones are expected to continue throughout the day in the Snoqualmie Pass to Mt. Rainier area. Early Tuesday morning, a convergence band is in the Snoqualmie Pass vicinity and generally shifting southward. The west winds should bank clouds against the Cascade Crest and minimal spill-over is expected east of the Cascade Crest. Temperatures should be slightly cooler than yesterday.

On Tuesday night, temperatures will drop overnight, bringing snow to near Snoqualmie Pass level. Weak lingering convergence activity should end while very weak orographic rain and snow showers should sustain along the west slopes of the Cascades as the next system approaches from the NW.

On Wednesday, light snow (and low elevation rain) should increase ahead of a frontal system arriving in the afternoon. Rain and snow will become moderate by afternoon. Snow levels are expected to be low enough that Stevens Pass and Baker bases should pick up several inches of fresh snow will more at higher elevations.
