Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Tuesday

A subtropical feed of moisture is shifting southward on Monday afternoon as a trough pushes into the region. Precipitation will be associated with a weak low spawning a spiral band of convective showers isolated generally weak thunderstorms as it moves toward the Olympic Peninsula on Monday evening. With subtropical moisture just to the south, the upper trough will have a good amount of moisture to work with and convective energy, showers may be locally intense. Ahead of the trough, precipitation will focus more on the North Cascades, but as the winds shift WNW behind the trough, it will sag southward and some convergence activity is likely.

On Tuesday, flow aloft shifts NWerly with a broad ridge building offshore. Light and gradually decreasing rain and snow showers will continue over the Washington Cascades with light to moderate showers strongest in the Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood areas. The North Cascades should dry out by late morning with the east slopes of the Cascades experiencing plenty of sunshine.

Tuesday night, the northwest flow will continue, but shower activity will become very light as the broad ridge to our SW noses into the region.

On Wednesday, a frontal system will arrive by afternoon on a WNW, increasing rain/snow and winds.

Moderate to strong winds will be present for much of the period in the south Washington Cascades and Mt Hood regions.
