Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Monday

The Pacific Northwest sits under weak S flow aloft on Saturday with a trough embedded in a large ridge dominates dominating western Canada. The ridge is causing incoming storms to fizzle and split. Slight instability associated with the trough offshore will produce Isolated and light rain and snow shower activity into the evening hours on Saturday, particularly in the southern Washington Cascades and Olympics.

Most models continue to have a very weak low-pressure center develop east of the Cascades as the embedded weak trough moves onshore. A weakly organized band of clouds and very light rain or snow is expected to lift NE, potentially bringing less than 0.10" of snow water equivalent to parts of the Cascades east slopes and the North Cascades. Meanwhile, Mt. Hood and the Olympics should experience mostly clear weather with temperatures warming relative to Saturday. Sunday night, subtle ridging should enable skies to clear in most areas except possibly the North Cascades where clouds and very light rain or snow flurries may linger.

Temperatures will be mostly diurnally influenced with a gradual increase until Monday morning.

A front associated with a closed low offshore will eject NE on Monday, bringing a rain band into our region on Monday afternoon with mostly light to occasionally moderate rain, high elevation snow, and moderate SE shifting to SW winds, and cooling temperatures.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Monday

SW flow will bring light post-frontal snow showers to some areas with snow levels lowering toward pass level. The Mt. Baker area is favored for snow accumulation. Tuesday might bring some continued light post-frontal snow showers in some areas, but the main energy of the closed low will be heading for California. With cool temperatures in place, expect snow shower activity to increase in the afternoon. By late Wednesday, the closed low may bring some moisture into our region or we may dry out.
