The weather pattern seems more reminiscent of June than the variable weather we typically expect in the springtime. Weather systems impacting our region continue to be weak and mostly dry.
A disturbance passing over the area on NNW flow aloft on Tuesday maintains enough moisture and low-level onshore flow for a 3,000-5,000 ft cloud deck over most areas west of the Cascade Crest with a few mid-level clouds as well. This disturbance continues to bring areas of patchy, very light drizzle or snow flurries. Accumulations may approach a hundredth of an inch of water equivalent for some west-side locations on Tuesday afternoon, but it is even less likely to produce this amount during the evening hours as the shortwave disturbance shifts to our southeast. In its wake, mostly cloudy skies linger west of the Cascade Crest with clearing to the east. Expect some of these clouds to linger along the west slopes into the morning hours on Wednesday. Increasing influence from the offshore high should break up these clouds, but do expect some fair-weather cumulus across the region in the afternoon as the freezing level rises to around 8000 ft as ridgeline winds generally become light and variable.
The offshore ridge noses into the region Wednesday night into Thursday, resulting in continued warming as freezing levels push into the 8,500-9,500 ft. Expect mostly clear/sunny skies with thin, high clouds at times.

Extended Weather Synopsis
It's going to be very warm Friday into the weekend. The ridge likely shifts slightly east as a closed low develops off the California coast. Most likely, this leaves our region in a split-flow pattern, dominated by high pressure and generally light onshore flow. Expect mostly sunny skies with occasional high clouds on Friday and Saturday. Mountain temperatures could be 15-25F above average for early May. However, there is a chance that a dry front will bring another period of onshore flow and cloud cover into our region, which could limit the anomalous temperatures.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
