Weather Synopsis
While most of the region is simply overcast and cool this afternoon, opposite ends of the spectrum are found in the northern and southern portions of the area. Near Hurricane Ridge and in the northwestern portion of the West North zone, there's plenty of sunshine, making for a beautiful afternoon. Conversely, south of Hwy 12 and near Mt Hood, steady rain and snow persisted all day.
A band of precipitation remains draped across the WA/OR border. A small pulse of energy will finally help move this system out of the region. But as it does so, moisture should lift northward bring showers to locations near and south of I-90 this evening. A low pressure system well to our north then spins a weak front into the Pacific Northwest, keeping skies cloudy and increasing ridgeline winds overnight. A few showers start to arrive in the Olympics and Cascades after midnight, but most of the moisture holds off until closer to sunrise.
So far away from the low pressure center and without significant upper atmosphere support, this isn't much of a storm. Generally light showers should focus on the west slopes and passes of the Cascades, with only a few sprinkles making it much further east. Showers slowly start to taper Monday afternoon and evening, drying from south to north. Most areas should see precipitation end before midnight.
While a few isolated flurries may still be falling near the Canadian border to start Tuesday, the overall trend will be for drying. A split jet stream sets up over the region, sending approaching storms to our north and south while leaving us dry. High level clouds follow this same pattern. As a result, areas in the North Cascades and near Mt Hood may stay overcast, while sunshine should be more common for the central forecast zones.

Extended Weather Synopsis
We stay dry through the middle of the week as a split jet stream leaves us in no man's land. Storms head to our north into Canada and south to California, but miss us entirely. Mostly sunny days and cold, clear nights should allow for diurnal temperature swings, and potentially inversions in mountain valleys and passes. An approaching high pressure ridge flops over into the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday, reuniting the two branches of the jet stream. Don't worry, this should be one of those persistent high pressure systems we dealt with through much of January and early February. Instead, the ridge quickly passes us by. Clouds start to increase on Thursday ahead of our next weather system. It's too far out to give too many details, but at least this weather pattern leaves the door open for additional storms.
