If you're out in the mountains and above the inversion or just plain west of the Cascade crest, you're likely enjoying a sunny and unseasonably mild first day of meteorological winter (Dec 1 - Feb 28th) featuring mid and upper mountain temperatures in the upper 30s to low 50s across the area. Easterly flow is a tad stronger than forecast this afternoon, pulling low level clouds through Snoqualmie Pass, with low clouds near Stevens and just east of White Pass. Further east of the Cascade crest, a broad area of stratus with fingers of valley fog can be seen on visible satellite and webcams. Cloud tops are likely in the 3000-4000' range. Ridgeline winds will remain the light to moderate range over the next 24 hrs.
There won't be much change to talk about for the next 2 days with an upper level ridge of high pressure in control. Storm systems will be directed into central B.C. and well away from our area. Freezing levels will be between 9,000-11,000 over this period with temperature inversions staying in place and trapping much colder air along the lower slopes and valleys. On Monday, east flow should weaken a bit giving Snoqualmie Pass a higher chance of full breakout but otherwise the low cloud pattern will largely look the same in this stagnant pattern. On Tuesday, we should see a partial increase in high cloud cover as the ridge hints at breaking down.

Extended Weather Synopsis
We'll start to see more mid and high cloud cover filter in on Wednesday as the upper level ridge breaks down. A weak N-S oriented frontal system will struggle to make inroads Wednesday night and should bring some light precipitation on Thursday. Snow levels are likely to remain elevated with the onset of precipitation and should settle into the 6000-7000' range on Thursday.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
