Updated 2:10pm to correct a typo. A cold front passed through late Saturday and early Sunday, bringing much cooler temperatures with it. Post frontal showers have kept snowfall going in areas of convergence like Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes. These showers should wind down as evening sets in. Most mountain locations have picked up 2-6" of new snow at trailhead elevations and upwards of 1" of snow water equivalent at the volcanoes. The central passes picked up about 0.75" of SWE. As the front continues to move out of the region wind speeds will slow, clouds will break up, and we'll see clearing skies overnight.
Monday will be a beautiful day in the mountains with sun and patchy clouds. After a chilly morning, temperatures will warm up substantially by early afternoon, but a pronounced inversion will form on the east side of the Cascade Crest. This could create cloudy skies at mid and low elevations there. East flow through the passes and areas of valley fog may contribute to locally colder temperatures as well.
A relatively strong pressure gradient will set up between the cold air on the east side of the crest and warmer maritime air to the west on Monday night. With this we can expect low level easterly flow, so you could see increased winds through the low gaps and passes. On Tuesday a weak front enters the region. Precipitation will begin first in the Olympics by mid afternoon, then slowly spread light showers into the rest of the mountains on Tuesday night into Wednesday. The warm air with this storm lifts snow levels up to fairly high elevations, so we could see rain on snow at trailheads and even ridgetops with this one.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The SW to NE oriented front will drift southeast, and could hang up a bit longer in the southern part of the area. This could contribute to snowfall that lasts into the morning hours for Mt Hood. This area being the exception, the rest of the region will see another rebound to high pressure on Wednesday for decreasing cloud cover. High pressure will continue to build into the week, so dry conditions can be expected.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
