Scattered showers will continue over the area through this evening and then taper off after midnight. We may see some partial clearing overnight before the next system arrives and as showers clear out. Most areas will see moderate W-SW ridgeline winds. After a mild Friday, we should see snow levels cool off a bit into the 2500-3500' range late tonight.
A weak warm front extending from a deep low-pressure system off the northern B.C. coast will begin to brush the Olympics and northwest Cascades Saturday morning with precipitation and increasingly strong S-SW winds. Precipitation will increase for these same areas Saturday afternoon and begin to spread south and east.
An atmospheric river will begin to move even more moisture into the area Saturday night through Sunday night with increasingly wet and mild conditions developing as move toward the latter half of the weekend. The heaviest precipitation should once again target the southern slopes of the Olympics and the northwest Cascades including the Mt Baker area during the day on Sunday along with strong S-SW ridgeline winds. Other areas in the Cascades will be quite wet come Sunday afternoon as well, but the heaviest of the precipitation may hold off until Sunday night. Mt Hood will be on the southern periphery of the storm track. Snow levels will rise on Sunday, rising to 5500'/6500' in the north to 8500' over Mt Hood by Sunday afternoon.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The frontal band should south and weaken overnight Sunday over the Cascades. It looks likely that another wave of moisture will re-invigorate the same frontal boundary on Monday. Snow levels will be tricky, with cooler air slowly filtering in from the NW as the same upper level trough nears the PNW. Eventually, the front will push through on Monday and steadier precipitation will turn to showers Monday night and Tuesday as the cool upper level trough settles over the region.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
