Weather Synopsis
We're in for a pretty big change in the weather overnight and into Friday as the jet stream begins to focus on the Pacific Northwest. Increasing onshore flow will combine with low-level moisture Thursday night to wring out a few showers along the west slopes of the Cascades and Olympics. This first round of precipitation doesn't look that impressive, but it's just a precursor of what's to come.
As we head into Friday, an approaching storm system will cause showers and winds to steadily increase through the day. As a result, you should see the bulk of the rain and snow in the afternoon. Moderate to strong and gusty prefrontal winds will be out of the S-SW. This generally favors the volcanoes, with the greatest precipitation falling near Mt Baker and Mt St Helens. Without much to help the showers move over the Cascades, most of the precipitation hangs up near the crest, and little if any snow makes it further east.
A stout cold front passes over the region Friday night. This will produce the stormiest weather as gusty winds and periods of heavy rain/snow impact the mountains. This includes the best chance of precipitation to spill over to sites along the east slopes of the Cascades. Behind the front, snow levels should fall to around 1500ft by Saturday morning.
This storm isn't done yet. Several factors will combine on Satruday to keep the showers piling up snow in the mountains: strong westerly winds, significant low-level moisture, an unstable atmosphere, and a convergence zone. One unique factor on Satruday could be the presence of thunder snow (winter thunderstorm). At the very least, you're likely to encounter convective showers with locally heavy snowfall, graupel, and gusty winds.

Extended Weather Synopsis
Our active weather pattern continues throughout the weekend and into the beginning of next week. An open through will set up over the Pacific Northwest, bringing us generally cold and wet conditions. A series of ill-defined shortwave disturbances swing over the region Saturday night and Sunday evening. Each of these storms should reinvigorate precipitation activity across the mountains. During breaks in the storms, you may see a bit of sunshine or a glimpse of some stars, but these windows appear shortlived. It's hard to say if or when additional waves of precipitation will arrive, but the general pattern appears to hang around for several days.
