Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Thursday

A weak upper low passed inland through Oregon early this morning, bringing some light snow above 5500' to Mt Hood and Mt Rainier where 1-3" of snow accumulated overnight. The trailing upper level trough will spread light showers along the west slopes of the Cascades this morning with showers decreasing in the afternoon. Areas from about Snoqualmie Pass and south should see some sun mix in this afternoon.  The dregs from warm frontal moisture should keep the north Cascades overcast today even though precipitation should be very light.

Weak upper level ridging will build over the area overnight and with it the return of high freezing levels. Cool east flow in the Passes will once again create temperature inversions but mid and upper slopes for all regions except the Washington Pass area should see above freezing temperatures.

Waves of moisture that ride along a quasi-stationary frontal band on Monday will mainly take aim at the central British Columbia coast. There's still uncertainty how much precipitation will slip south of the border and clip the Olympics and Mt Baker area. Snow/freezing levels will remain elevated on Monday, with cloudy and wet conditions near the Canadian border transitioning to filtered sunshine as you travel south to Mt Hood and further away from the frontal band. Also look for alpine winds to increase during the day for the Washington Cascades.
