Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Saturday
A weak front moved through the area last night, bringing a few inches of snow to the Mt Baker area with little to no snow accumulation elsewhere due to lighter precipitation and higher snow overnight snow levels. The dissipating front may ring out a few very light showers this morning and then we should be off to the races for a widespread clearing trend later today.
An upper level ridge will build offshore during the day today and pass inland overnight. Besides dry conditions taking hold this weekend, freezing levels will be on the rise, peaking at 7000-8000' midday Sunday for areas west of the Cascade crest and Mt. Hood. Easterly offshore flow will help draw cool air through the Cascade Passes, creating temperature inversions and breezy conditions Saturday night and Sunday. The east slopes of the Cascades will also moderate temperature-wise, but the relatively cooler air lodged over the central and northeast Cascades won't be scoured out completely.
An approaching frontal system will spread clouds over the Olympics by late morning Sunday with cloud cover increasing for the Cascades by mid to late afternoon Sunday.
