Weather Synopsis for Thursday & Saturday
A ridge of high pressure attempts to dominate the weather pattern for the next several days. However, lingering moisture behind a recently departed system will keep clouds and a slight chance of very light rain and snow showers (up to a few hundredths of an inch of water equivalent) in the forecast for parts of the west slopes of the Cascades on Thanksgiving Day. The ridge should increasingly win the battle between the dry and moist air in southern parts of the Cascades by Thursday afternoon, so expect increasing chances for sun breaks in the southern and eastern Cascades during the afternoon. However, as the ridge pushes northward, it will tighten the pressure gradient due to the presence of a frontal system sending subtropical moisture into southern British Columbia. This will bring increasing moderate winds to above treeline areas of the north and eastern Cascades on Thursday.
Limited moisture from the frontal system to our north may brush the Mt. Baker area overnight, bringing an inch or less of snow Thursday night while most other areas remain mostly cloudy and dry. Winds should decrease slightly.
On Friday, the day will start partly cloudy to mostly sunny over much of the Cascade. The main portion of the weakening frontal system drops SE, increasing cloud cover throughout the day and also increasing moderate alpine winds, particularly in the Mt. Baker and Olympics regions.
