Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Sunday

Today is the last mild and dry day before the weather pattern changes to a cooler and wetter spring-time pattern. Temperature inversions are not particularly impressive this morning and morning lows are a notch warmer for the Olympics, south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood area. Areas of high clouds are already passing through the area, a trend that will continue as the day wears on with skies becoming overcast for the Olympics and perhaps the northwest Cascades in the afternoon. Filtered sunshine over the central and south Washington Cascades will transition to mostly sunny skies closer to Mt. Hood. Areas further south and east from the approaching cloud cover will see the warmest freezing levels today. Winds should increase in the Mt. Baker area this afternoon and above Cascade crest level in general.

An upper low dropping south along the B.C. coast will spin a front through the Cascades late Monday morning. Precipitation will begin over the Olympics and Mt. Baker area after midnight but precipitation will take its time spreading further south on Monday morning. As the front washes out mid-day Monday, convective showers will increase in the afternoon with a cold and unstable air mass over the region. Snow levels will fall to 2000-3000' Monday. New snow amounts look light with the exception of the Mt. Baker area, where 6-10" is possible through Monday afternoon.
