Weather Synopsis for Tuesday & Monday

A strong blocking ridge offshore continues to dominate Pacific Northwest weather for the rest of the week, bringing northerly flow aloft, continued mild temperatures, and dry weather with low relative humidity.

Temperatures were mild Monday night (at many NWAC stations, the temperature stayed above freezing) with some inversion. These inversions should mix out by mid-morning.

A weak shortwave embedded in the northerly flow should pass along our coastline today, reducing the influence of the high pressure slightly. High clouds associated with the low are reaching the US-Canadian border as of 7 AM. They should spread southward throughout the region, producing filtered sunshine and in some cases obscuring the sun (most likely over the Olympic Peninsula). Clouds should limit daytime warming and temperatures should be around 5F cooler than on Monday for areas West of the Cascade Crest, with similar temperatures east of the Crest.

Expect another mild night with clouds gradually exiting the region to the south and high pressure edging further back into the region.

Wednesday should be warm and mostly sunny under the influence of the offshore high.
