Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Monday

The closed low that's been impacting the region since Friday slowly spins southward off the California coast, with high pressure edging into the region from the north as the closed low moves away and we enter a prolonged dry spell. On Sunday afternoon, mid-level clouds are continuing to wrap into the SE Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood regions. As the closed low exits clouds with isolated snow flurries should continue to decrease in Washington State, but linger over Mt. Hood into early Monday morning. Light to moderate E winds will gradually taper on Monday.

A moderate inversion forms Sunday night in many areas with colder temperatures east of the Cascade Crest. The inversion breaks down by late morning on Monday, allowing temperatures to rise quickly from late morning into the afternoon hours when freezing levels rise to 6000-7500 ft west of the Cascade Crest and 5000-6500 ft east of the Cascade Crest. Mt. Hood stays slightly cooler, remaining weakly influenced by the cooler airmass of the departing low.

Monday night should be clear and mild with a weaker inversion forming. Tuesday should be a notch cooler as a dry shortwave feature tracking N to S offshore approaches and brings a band of partial cloud-cover to the region.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Monday

Tuesday night clouds exit as the offshore ridge pushes back into the region and remains over the region, keeping us dry and mild with warm sunny days and clear nights through Wednesday night. A better developed low tracks southward offshore on Thursday, pushing the ridge southward to bring in slightly cooler conditions, more clouds, and a slight chance of rain/snow showers. How far offshore the low tracks will dictate whether our region gets precipitation out of the system.
