Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Wednesday
An upper trough is sliding down the coast of British Columbia on Friday night, bringing rapidly cooling temperatures, increasing winds, and a chance of light snowfall through the day on Saturday. The sharp boundary between the cooler air to the north and the warmer air to the south will drive the moderate westerly winds, which will increase Friday evening and remain elevated in many areas through the day on Saturday. Periods of light rain and snow are expected to transition to mainly snow down to Snoqualmie Pass level as precipitation develops over the North Cascades and spreads southward. The light snow should continue to shift southward on Saturday, with some local enhancement in areas of convergence possible from the Mountain Loop to Snoqualmie Pass. Throughout the west slopes of the Cascades, up to several inches of snow are expected with daytime and with daytime warming making it difficult for snow to stick on paved surfaces.
The Pacific Northwest sits near the western edge of the broad trough through Sunday. Saturday night, the energy associated with the trough exits to the east, replaced with a light and drier N flow, ending the light snow flurry activity. Skies should clear in many areas allowing for radiational cooling and a cold night across the region with below-freezing temperatures in most mountain locations.
Sunday should be mostly clear and cool in the morning with rebounding temperatures by afternoon and clouds or light rain/snow showers developing in the afternoon.
