Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Monday
Although it's the last morning mountain weather forecast of the 2018-2019 winter season, the mountains are still experiencing winter-like conditions. Cool, westerly flow and snow shower activity lingers in a subtle trough behind a departed frontal system. This flow pattern should continue to produce light accumulating snow for most areas near and west of the Cascade Crest, with minimal spillover onto the east slopes. Snow shower and weak convergence activity has been focused from Snoqualmie Pass northward Sunday morning. Snow showers should increase throughout the range and spread into areas further south as the day progresses with weak convergence in some areas. Models have been showing very little range in diurnal temperatures as a cool air mass continues to spill into the region. However, it's mid-April, so we bumped up snow levels to reflect the reality of increased solar radiation in the afternoon.
The moist W flow should decrease Monday night. Precipitation should decrease in coverage, but a moderate convergence zone is anticipated to develop in the central Cascades, possibly between Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes which could bring accumulating snow to Snoqualmie or Stevens Pass. Snow shower activity is expected to generally taper off by Monday morning.
On Monday, an open trough will move into the Oregon near-shore waters, spreading light snow to the Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens areas by Monday afternoon with high clouds increasing as far north as Snoqualmie Pass. Elsewhere, expect mostly sunny weather with light winds and variable or weak offshore flow.
