Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Monday

The Pacific Northwest will get another shot of winter-like conditions in April, this weekend. A good pattern for snow production is in place with westerly flow and cooling aloft. Temperatures will start mild, but with the cooling air mass, expect that we won't have the bump-up afternoon temperatures quite as much as we've seen in recent days. A NE-SW oriented frontal system passing over the region today is bringing increasing light rain (Snoqualmie) and snow (most areas above 3500 ft) with some heavier embedded shower activity approaching the Washington coastline (associated with the cooling air mass). The southern boundary of the Precipitation will work southward from the Mt. Rainier area to the Mt. Hood area by late morning. The front is expected to pass through the Cascades late in the day. Mt. Baker, followed by Paradise should expect to pick up the most Snoq today, but the Central Cascade passes should do well with this event. Southerly winds ahead of the system will be gusting strong in the Mt. Baker area and should be picking up throughout the day in other areas.

Saturday night the upper-level trough moves over the region and snow levels should lower to below pass level. A convergence zone is slated to set up near the Stevens Pass or Mtn Loop areas overnight. Post-frontal activity should generally be in the light to occasionally moderate range with an additional 2-6" for most Cascade west slope locations. Winds will remain brisk (in the moderate range, strong for Mt. Hood).

WSW flow and slightly reduced post-frontal snow shower activity should continue on Sunday with easing winds, 1-3" of snow possible, and unseasonably cool temperatures.
