Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Saturday
An upper level low continues to weaken as it drifts near the Oregon coast today, sending high clouds over the Pacific Northwest and light precipitation about as far north as the south Washington Cascades.
Tonight, a trailing upper level trough will quickly spawn a frontal system that will pass through the Cascades mid-day Wednesday. Rain and snow should develop mainly for the Olympics and north Cascades overnight and spread inland and south during the day on Wednesday. Some modest precipitation amounts are possible with this system for the volcanoes, especially the Mt. Baker area. Forecast models continue to show a high spread in precipitation amounts, so there is some added uncertainty with this forecast. Winds should also increase tomorrow morning as the frontal system impacts the area. Behind the front, snow levels should fall to 4500 ft by late Wednesday afternoon or early evening.
Showers should quickly taper down Wednesday night as shortwave ridging builds over the area. A digging upper level trough off the California coast will be slow to spread precipitation up from the south on Thursday although there should be plenty of cloud cover.
