Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Saturday

Mild weather is forecast throughout the period with freezing levels near Cascade Crest level. The Pacific Northwest remains under a weak ridge Sunday evening before some more organized weather systems start moving into the region. The ridge should generally help minimize the evening convection, with scattered clouds over the topography fading quickly during the evening hours. High clouds are expected to increase overnight ahead of an open upper low, moving eastward to about 850 miles off the northern California coastline by the end of the day Sunday.

The upper low will move into the near-shore waters off the Oregon coast during the day on Tuesday, spreading light rain and high elevation snow along with moderate wind into the Mt. Hood area beginning early Monday morning; this should spread into the southern Washington Cascades during the afternoon. Recent model runs have been keeping the low slightly further south, so moisture amounts have been decreasing in quantity and northward extent with each progressive model run.

The upper low is expected to move SE to near the California/Oregon border by Tuesday morning, keeping the light precipitation in the same areas Monday night through the Tuesday, with gradually decreasing winds.

Snow levels will remain relatively consistent around 6000 ft.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Saturday

As the upper low and associated trough exit to the east, a surface low should track north of the the Oregon and Washington coastlines Tuesday night, spreading light to occasionally moderate rain and snow throughout the Cascades and Olympics with moderate rain and high elevation snow focusing on the Mt. Baker area as the low is forecast to move onshore in SW British Columbia on Wednesday. Lingering showers should decrease Wednesday night.

On the heels of the previous system, a S-to-N-tracking low offshore is forecast to bring a moderate front into the region, which will start to lower snow levels across the region and should bring some rain and snow.
