Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Sunday

The Pacific Northwest sits under a weak ridge on Sunday for one last day of quiescent weather before some more organized weather systems start moving into the region. The ridge should generally help minimize the afternoon and evening convection. Very light showers may develop over the higher terrain, with the highest chances in the Mt. Rainier area and Olympic mountains. High clouds in the southern portions of the region should increase ahead of an open upper low, moving eastward to about 800 miles off the northern California coastline by the end of the day Sunday. Mid-level clouds may also reach the Mt. Hood area by the end of the day.

High and mid-level clouds will continue to increase overnight with increasing light rain and high elevation snow arriving in the Mt. Hood area by first thing Monday morning. The upper trough moves into the near-shore waters with a surface low expected to develop off the Oregon coast, drifting NE during the day. The rain and high elevation snow is forecast to increase over the Mt. Hood area, spreading slightly northward into the southern Washington Cascades and Olympics by late in the day, but it is unlikely to progress past I-90. Winds should increase out of the ESE with E winds through the mountain gaps in Washington State with southerly winds in the Mt. Hood area.

Snow levels will remain relatively consistent around 6000 ft.
