Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Sunday
The Pacific Northwest region is experiencing benign weather under split flow with an active jetstream over northern Canada and a weak subtropical jetstream to our south. A weak high pressure over western Montana is exiting the region, allowing a very subtle trough to kick off a few very light rain and high elevation snow showers over the mountains of Washington State Saturday evening. Skies should clear overnight and through tomorrow morning with afternoon cumulus build-up likely, but little to no precipitation on Sunday.
Mid to high-level moisture is expected to increase Sunday night ahead of moving toward the Oregon coast. This may bring some light rain and snow to the Mt. Hood region by Monday morning. Rain and high elevation snow will increase and spread northward into the Olympics and Washington Cascades but is expected to remain primarily south of I-90. Rain and high elevation snow totals could be significant with up to an inch of snow water equivalent in the Mt. Hood area, but models are not in good agreement regarding the amounts. Snow levels are high, so snow accumulation should be above 6,000 ft. Winds will also increase into the light to moderate range out of the east for portions of the southern Cascades with light easterly flow through the major mountain gaps.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Sunday
Monday night, rain and high elevation snow will continue around the trough and associated upper low approaching the Oregon coastline, remaining generally south of I-90 through Tuesday. Models diverge regarding Tuesday night and Wednesday with a trough or surface low developing off the Washington coastline and lifting the moisture northward, or perhaps arriving after the original system shifts eastward. The result is that northern Washington gets moisture either way, but it may be a minor perturbation with light rain and snow or a more healthy dose of rain, snow, and wind. Snow levels are expected to lower slightly by Wednesday.
