Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Sunday
A weak high pressure over the Canadian Rockies is keeping quiet weather across our region today, with an active jetstream over northern Canada and a weak subtropical jetstream to our south. Skies are generally clear with patchy low-elevation fog and calm winds on Saturday morning. As the mountains heat up under the sunshine, the strong surface temperature gradient should make the atmosphere conditionally unstable and help drive the lift for cumulus development and mostly isolated to scattered shower activity late in the day into the early evening hours. The best chances of accumulating precipitation should be in the Mt. Rainier area and Olympic mountains. With the air mass moderating aloft, activity should be weaker than the past two afternoons. Skies should clear overnight with the weak high dissipating.
Sunday should start mostly sunny, but a weak trough aimed for Oregon will begin its approach, spreading high and mid-level clouds into the region as the day progresses. Some afternoon cumulus formation is forecast once again with chances of isolated shower activity.
Freezing levels are high, so any light snow accumulation should be above 6,000 ft.
