Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Sunday
A large upper-level ridge over the western US is allowing a shortwave trough to push a band of mid and upper-level moisture northward, which is touching off some generally light to very light rain and snow in parts of the Washington Cascades. Sunday evening, lingering precipitation should be mostly confined to regions north of Leavenworth and as far west as Mt. Baker. Clouds and precipitation will end from S to N as the feature moves NE into British Columbia.
A stronger frontal system will split from a parent closed low offshore Sunday night and will lift NE. Moisture will spread across the Mt. Hood and southern Washington Cascades and Olympics on Monday afternoon. Winds will pick up ahead of the feature and then switch to the SSW behind the front, ushering in cooler air. Moisture will be primarily associated with the frontal feature itself, but snow shower activity can be expected to continue into Tuesday afternoon in the Mt. Baker area, while most other areas largely dry out. Snow levels will start elevated, around 5000 ft, and then will drop behind the front, bottoming out near or below 3000 ft by Tuesday morning with a trough rotating and centered offshore.
