Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Monday

A large upper-level ridge over the western US is allowing a shortwave trough to push a band of mid and upper-level moisture northward. The band is oriented NW to SE from central Washington to NE Utah and is spreading some light to very light rain and snow to parts of the Washington Cascades, mostly from the crest eastward, with snow levels around 4000 ft on Sunday morning. Moisture will continue to spread N and slightly westward as a weak surface low works toward Okanogan County. In the North Cascades, light precipitation is likely to make is as far west as Mt. Baker. Favored areas for amounts of snow water equivalent >0.10" are further east, from Mission Ridge north toward Mazama. There is very little energy associated with this moisture, so expect light winds.

Precipitation should taper from south to north during the late afternoon and evening hours, followed by clearing skies and quiescent weather.

A stronger, but weakening frontal feature will split from a parent closed low offshore Sunday night and will lift NE. Moisture will spread across the Mt. Hood and southern Washington Cascades and Olympics on Monday afternoon, but the timing remains uncertain. Snow levels will start elevated, around 5000 ft. and winds will pick up in advance of the system out of the SE.
