Weather Synopsis for Friday & Friday
The Pacific Northwest sits under a gradually growing ridge on Friday. The ridge is bringing above-normal and warming temperatures, very light winds, and mostly sunny, dry weather to the region. Some low-level stratus clouds sit in the north Puget Sound area, but with weak offshore flow and warming temperatures aloft, these clouds are not expected to impact the Cascades significantly. High clouds are generally lifting northward, associated with a fizzling departing frontal system and another fizzling frontal system slated to brush the region on Saturday afternoon. Mt. Baker saw some moderate southerly winds overnight with the first fizzling frontal system, but winds have died down this morning as it weakens and pushes north with the growing ridge. A weakening cold pool exists east of the Cascade Crest with temperatures in the mid-teens in the Mazama area with 20's elsewhere. The east flow is pulling some of this cool air through the mountain gaps and the weak inversion can be seen in the Washington Pass weather station data. With a strong March sun heating the surface, the cold pool will mix during the day, then re-form but more weakly tonight.
High-level clouds will increase Friday night, with mid-level clouds increasing Saturday ahead of the second fizzling front as it brushes the Olympic Peninsula Saturday afternoon, possibly producing some light drizzle there before the front dissipates.
