Weather Synopsis for Friday & Monday

A quick-moving and narrow front will bring a 3-4 hour shot of moderate snow to the Washington Cascades on Friday. Very light snow currently falling in the Cascades will first increase in the Olympics and North Cascades. Expect moderate snowfall to precede the frontal passage which is expected to be around noon in the Olympics, mid-afternoon for the central Washington Cascades and the evening hours for Mt. Hood. Many areas will see a brief but intense shot of moderate to strong SW winds associated with the front.

The highest impact from this frontal system will be in the Mt. Hood area. The winds at Mt. Hood will increase to strong during the late afternoon and evening hours as snow develops. The front will progress more rapidly in the north, so the Mt. Hood area may see more sustained snowfall during the evening areas for 6 hours, with moderate to strong post-frontal westerly flow providing orographic enhancement through the night. Elsewhere over Washington State, mostly light showers will follow the front, with decreasing winds. However, a well-defined convergence zone will set up near Snoqualmie Pass from about 4PM to 10PM and may provide up to a foot of snow in some areas and very little in others.

On Saturday, a cool, showery regime will be in place with light snow showers in many areas as a cool upper trough moves into the near-shore waters.
