“I firmly believe that we are all better off if we spend time in the mountains – and NWAC’s main function is to provide our community foundational tools to get them outside in the snow. Problem solving to better equip all of us in the PNW, in the everchanging backcountry space, is what keeps me interested.”

Scott Schell, NWAC Executive Director

The Impact of Your Membership

Mountain Weather and Avalanche Forecasts

Throughout the winter, NWAC produces daily avalanche and weather forecasts to communicate avalanche danger throughout the Washington Cascades, Olympics, and Mt. Hood area.

Weather Stations

Together with our partners at SnowTel, NWAC offers real-time insights into changing mountain weather conditions with the largest mountain weather station network in North America.

Education Opportunities

NWAC provides hundreds of educational opportunities annually from introductory classes to in-depth workshops. We work with new and experienced backcountry travelers to build a community invested in ongoing education.

Ongoing Outreach

We host a variety of events for the backcountry community to connect our members and industry partners in new and innovative ways so we can continue to inspire future generations of adventurers.

Other Ways to Give

Community support, in all of its forms, is the foundation of the Northwest Avalanche Center. Consider submitting an observation for your next day out, attending or volunteering at an event, or gifting a membership to your loved ones.
