Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday
A surface low off the central Washington Coast spread light snow over the region today.
Tonight, snowfall will increase for the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood area as the low drops south along the coast. On the west side of the Cascades, very cold and drier air drawn out of the British Columbia interior will flood through the Fraser River Valley later tonight with gusty NE winds. This should help light snowfall taper down from north to south along the west slopes of the Cascades on Saturday. The exception will be along the north slopes of the Olympics where NE outflow winds will help keep locally moderate snow in the forecast overnight through Saturday morning.
A serious upslope component to this storm will also enhance snowfall along the east slopes of the Cascades tonight through much of Saturday. Along the east slopes, the highest totals are likely for the Wentachee Mountains, whom could see 18-36 inches by Saturday night.
The other main focus during this storm will be the wind. Moderate easterly winds will develop at Pass level and at ridge-crest for most of the Washington Cascades Friday night through Saturday. Expect cold temperatures (with single digits expected for the Olympics and north Cascades) and lots of blowing snow to impact just about all areas whether or not new snow is falling.
The low complex will weaknen and drift futher south Saturday night. Light snow showers should continue for the Mt. Hood area and the southeast Cascades overnight. As the upper low drifts into Oregon on Sunday, we will see a short-lived break from the wind and snow showers with fair and cold weather expected.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday
Before we catch our breath from the weekend snow, a new low pressure system will be developing off the coast late Sunday afternoon, spreading snow inland Sunday night. The storm track is still uncertain as it passes inland overnight. Forecast models deliver a nice shot of cold snow and wind to the Mt. Hood region, but offer different solutions to how far north the precipitation shield extends. There's a good chance the north Cascades will see little to no snowfall from this storm while the central and south Washington Cascades pick up light to moderate amounts.
As that system exits Monday morning, a stronger and more potent system is taking aim at the Columbia River Gorge. Again, we have low confidence in the exact storm track. There is a higher confidence that a significant storm will impact the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood and that our cold weather isn't relinquishing it's grip on the region anytime soon.
