Frequently Asked Questions

What training do I need?

Volunteers must attend an annual 1-hour training with NWAC staff prior to volunteering. This training runs in the fall and covers all program details.

What if I can’t make it to the date I signed up for?

We need at least two people present to run each event, so last minute cancellations may have significant impacts on the program. Please keep this in mind when you’re signing up for dates. Should you need to cancel, we ask that do so at least two weeks in advance by emailing Katie Smith (katie.smith@nwac.us)

Will events be cancelled for weather?

NWAC staff will monitor weather and road conditions prior to each event. Cancellation decisions will typically be made the evening prior to the event and will be communicated over text. If you have any concerns about weather or road conditions please reach out to Katie Smith (katie.smith@nwac.us).

How will I know if my date has been cancelled or changed?

We will only cancel events for bad weather or road conditions. This will be communicated to you via text the evening prior to the event. If our staff needs to change the location of the event, we will select a trailhead within the same forecasting zone and communicate the change as soon as possible.

Can I bring a friend, family member, or dog?

Unfortunately, only trained volunteers can represent NWAC under the tent. We ask that any visitors greet you and move on to enjoy the snow and allow room for other travelers to approach! We also do not allow dogs or other pets to be present at events.

Can I give travel advice to the public?

You may not give out any travel advice except for what is explicitly written in that day’s forecast. Please refer people to www.nwac.us for forecast information and education opportunities. You may defer challenging interactions to NWAC staff present at the trailhead.
