Mild, dry and quiet weather will extend into the first few days of March. A cut-off low-pressure system well off the California coast is spinning high clouds over the south Washington Cascades and Mt Hood this afternoon, with high clouds petering out further to the north. This pattern will remain essentially unchanged through Sunday, with thicker high clouds down near the WA/OR state line and fewer high clouds to the north. There is a slight chance of showers for Mt Hood Sunday through Monday, but confidence is low that they'll bring any light rain or high-elevation snow.
Freezing levels will generally sit around 7000-8000' over the weekend. With clearer skies, freezing levels will be a bit lower over the North Cascades, especially in the normally colder East North zone. Those cooler temperatures will be temporary, and we can expect 5000' temperatures to max out in the 40s on Sunday.
Ridgeline winds are a bit of dealer's choice depending on your elevation due to a battle between weak WNW flow aloft and weak offshore/northerly gradients. You may experience S-SE at lower ridgelines that transition to light to moderate NW winds near and above 7,000'.
Sunday night and Monday will be mild and dry as well, with weak, flat upper-level ridging over the area. We may see some high clouds start to sneak into the area from the west later in the day along with a slight uptick in W-NW ridgeline winds.

Extended Weather Synopsis
An active pattern will return Tuesday and at least through the end of the workweek, perhaps longer. A frontal system will bring precipitation to the area on Tuesday, with potentially stormy conditions on Tuesday night and showers on Wednesday. Snow levels will lower over this period, but perhaps not as much as we would like. Snow levels will likely start in the 4500-6000' range on Tuesday, and lower to around 4000' on Wednesday.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
