Weather Synopsis
It's been another snowy and windy day across most of the forecast region. Even if you only saw a few light snow showers today, don't worry, more is on the way. The low pressure wobbling around the eastern Pacific keeps sending us storm after storm. This last one, Sunday night into Monday, should be the largest. While rain and snow will continue for Mt Baker and the Olympics this evening, most other locations experience a relative break in the action with only a few passing showers. E-SSE winds should finally start to decrease and turn more SW as our next storm arrives.
Look for rain and snow to spread into the mountains around midnight. This could result in stormy conditions with gusty winds and moderate to heavy precipitation. A strong overhead jet stream should help moisture reach over the Cascades and into the eastern zones. The brunt of the storm stretches into Monday morning with continued precipitation.
By mid-morning, the focus of the storm starts drifting south, causing steady precipitation to change to showers and then end. Areas in the southern zones and near Mt Hood could stay stormy all day. Eventually, the main axis of precipitation becomes quite narrow and traned on southern Washington. That's where the weather models start to diverge. This abrupt east-west line of moisture sets up not only a significant difference in precipitation but also a stark change in temperatures. Warmer air moves in south of this feature, so its position has a major impact on storm totals and snow levels.
This uncertainty is most pronounced on Tuesday, when some models lift the frontal boundary back northward, spreading light precipitation all the way back to the Canadian border. Others keep the main axis of water pinned near the Oregon-Washington border, leaving areas further north dry and cool. We'll have to see how the next 24 hours shake out first.

Extended Weather Synopsis
With so much uncertainty in the near term forecast, you can imagine the details for the extended product are a little hazy. Wherever precipitation ends up on Tuesday, showers should linger in those same areas overnight. Northwest winds aloft usher in cooler air and help add a bit of moisture to any leftover precipitation. A split-flow jet stream begins to take shape Wednesday afternoon and shunts incoming storms to our north into central British Columbia. However, clouds and precipitation could splash the region, keeping us from drying out. It seems like Wednesday night and Thursday, you'll have the best chance at precipitation further north and the best chance at clearing and sunshine further south.
