Light snow showers along the west slopes of the Cascades will taper off overnight. On Tuesday, the main weather event will begin as warm frontal moisture arrives along the coast in the morning, and quickly slides into the central Cascades to Mt Hood by late morning/mid-day. Snow levels will initially stay below Pass and most trailheads during the day on Tuesday, and snowfall rates will become moderate to heavy by sunset, most likely from the Snoqualmie Pass corridor to the far south WA Cascades in the afternoon and early evening. Even this close to the onset of the storm, there's a fair amount of uncertainity regarding the northern/southern impact of the storm. There's higher confidence that southerly winds will ramp up in the afternoon as storm conditions intensify.
Moderate to locally heavy precipitation will continue through the first half of Tuesday night, but snow levels will rise more agressively, with a change to rain at mid-elevations for the Mt Hood area and the south WA Cascades first. As the warm frontal precipitation begins to taper off Wednesday morning and milder air continues to punch inland with westerly flow aloft, we may see mixed precipitation including freezing rain/drizzle in Snoqualmie Pass, with a chance along the east slopes of the Cascades near and south of I-90.
We should see a short break in the action on Wednesday as another warm front approaches the area. Milder air will have moved into the region at this point, and snow levels will be between 4000-6000' for northern/central Cascades and 6000-8000' for the S. Cascades and Mt. Hood area.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The evolution of the next round of precipitation carries a fair bit of uncertainity as well; some models track the low NE toward Vancouver Island (a traditional landing spot) while others drift the low into western WA on Thanksgiving and Friday for heavier precipitation totals along with cooler snow levels. After the next round Wed night/Thu, we may trend towards drier and cooler weather closer to the holiday weekend.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
