Weather Synopsis

The drippy, drizzly, mostly cloudy, and mild weather is expected to continue through Monday, although some areas may experience some improvement at times. The warm, wet weather can be attributed to a moisture feed tied into a cutoff low off the California Coast. As that low shifts away from our region, it should sever the link, resulting in less moisture arriving in our region.

On Saturday night, a low-pressure center off the Pacific Northwest coast begins to gain influence, turning already light ridgeline winds more southerly. Drizzle will focus on areas of the central and northern Cascades favored by this flow pattern. As the trough approaches the coast on Sunday, SSW winds and some light rain and snow increase across the Puget Sound and should reach the Cascade Crest by the end of the day. Mt Baker can expect precipitation to start earlier in the day, but the timing remains uncertain. Snow levels in the 7,000-8,500 ft range can be expected through the weekend, with freezing levels reaching above 10,000 ft around Mt. Hood, before the arrival of late-day precipitation.

The elongated trough sends more of its energy southward toward California Saturday night and Sunday, but maintains cloud cover and relatively disorganized showers over our region, along with a subtle cooling trend. Snow levels are expected to drop to around 4,000-6,000 ft by the afternoon.

Extended Weather Synopsis

The Pacific Northwest is likely to transition toward more seasonable temperatures on Monday night as a weak surface front associated with the upper trough brings more significant cooling and the chance of light snow showers down to ski area bases. Expect a drying trend on Tuesday, with the potential for a split flow pattern that eschews moisture around our region, leading into a ridge. That ridge is likely to feature a cold pool east of the Cascades, offshore flow, and milder conditions once again west of the Cascades.

Previous forecast from Nov 14, 2025

The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.

The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.

The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.

*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.

Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.

The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.

Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.

Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).

The label LT, is shorthand for ‘less than’.
