A bit of filtered sunshine graced some mountain locations this morning, but it was generally short-lived. The stacked low-pressure system offshore is spinning in some bands of light precipitation. Cloud cover has increased through the day and a spritz of light showers has begun in the southern zones and Mount Hood, on their way to the north. Precipitation should increase on both sides of the crest as we move into the overnight hours, with Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes a bit shadowed with the southerly flow. Temperatures have certainly moderated, generally reaching into the 30's and low 40's at 5000ft today. Snow levels will drop from 5000ft to 4000ft overnight.
On Friday, conditions stay showery and breezy in the mountains as the low-pressure center moves to the north and we are left in the trough. The cooling continues as snow levels drop further, down to 3500ft. The west slopes are favored for a bit more precipitation than those spots east of the crest. Though totals are modest by Cascades standards, middle and upper elevations in particular could see a nice refresh of the surface conditions. As the showers move in and out, filtered sunshine may be possible here and there, especially on the east side of the crest and south of I-90, though generally cloudy conditions should prevail.
Saturday, a final wave of very light and scattered showers favors the west slopes of the Cascades before a quick upper-ridge builds late afternoon. Snow levels hover in the 2500-3500ft range and precipitation totals look quite paltry, perhaps with the exception of the volcanoes.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The aforementioned ridge helps us dry out for 12-18 hours Saturday night into Sunday, but it won't last long. On Sunday, the next weather maker arrives as showers spread south to north. We will have to hash out the timing as we get closer, but as of now, it appears that Hood and the southern zones see a little bit of precipitation midday while points I-90 and north get into the action in the evening, though this could change. The storm should ramp up overnight, with snow levels somewhere starting around 4500ft and descending to 3500ft on Monday. After the front pushes through, things look troughy, cool, and showery for much of the week. Come on Winter!
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
