A classic spring cold front should reach the Washington coastline around 3 PM on Saturday. SE winds ahead of the front, combined with sunny skies, will bring temperatures into the upper 60s and low 70s across the Puget Sound lowlands, with 40s and low 50s widespread in the mountains. The arrival of the cold front will sharply correct these above-normal temperatures across the region as it progresses through our region Monday evening and overnight. Expect a 3-hour band of light to moderate precipitation for the west slopes of the Cascades, with more sustained moderate precipitation for much of the night from Highway 20 northward as a convergence band likely forms in the early morning hours. Snowfall amounts should be less than 3" in most areas, with 3-7" north of Highway 20. Snow levels start around 4500-5000 ft, but drop below 3000 ft overnight. Moderate S winds will accompany the front, switching SW overnight and W on Sunday before gradually decreasing.
The Pacific Northwest sits under a trailing trough featuring scattered to isolated light snow showers with locally more intense precipitation rates in increasingly convective showers driven by cold air aloft. These convective showers will allow for some spillover onto the E slopes of the Cascades, but snowfall amounts during the day should be a few inches or less in favored areas. Snow levels should stay below around 3000 ft, but accumulations are unlikely below 3500 ft during the daytime.
Lingering showers quickly dissipate Sunday evening with clearing skies overnight as an offshore ridge expands into the region. Monday should feature a cool start, with warming throughout the day.

Extended Weather Synopsis
A modest ridge transits the region Monday night and Tuesday with warming temperatures across the region. Freezing levels rise back above seasonal norms, particularly in southern portions of the forecast regions. A trough approaching the British Columbia coastline could bring increasing clouds to western Washington Tuesday night with light rain/snow shower activity and slightly cooler temperatures on Wednesday.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
