Split flow in the jet stream continues to send major storms north and south of the region while leaving us with relatively benign weather. This pattern should hold as we wrap up the weekend.
Expect a generally dry, calm, and cloudy night across the mountains. Patchy low clouds and fog could form in the mountain valleys and passes. A few very light upslope snow showers might sneak into the East North zone and bring a slight dusting to areas near and north of Lake Chelan.
On Sunday, upper air winds shift more SE and will draw clouds and moisture into the area from central Washington. This should result in overcast skies for locations along and east of the Crest and near Mt Hood. A few snow showers continue for the east slopes of the Cascades north of Hwy 2, but these flurries shouldn't amount to much. For areas further west, even if you start the day cloudy, expect a bit more sunshine by the afternoon. The biggest weather impact on Sunday could be increasing E-SE winds. Breezy conditions will develop near the Crest and in the mountain Passes.
A low-pressure system lifting northward from California Sunday night will spin additional moisture into the area. With SE flow aloft, this will send the bulk of the precipitation into the Mt Hood, East South, and East Central zones. Expect generally light snow showers to move from south to north on both sides of the Cascades. The highest accumulations should occur in the southern half of the forecast region through Monday afternoon.

Extended Weather Synopsis
Late Monday, a narrow open trough starts to develop over the Pacific Northwest. This should allow a few light showers to linger in the mountains through Tuesday. An approaching storm slides down the British Columbia coastline overnight and will help bring a better chance of significant precipitation to the region. Right now, the moisture tap looks thin, so this won't likely produce impressive snow totals. However, it should help temperatures drop and open the door for additional disturbances later in the week.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
