A cold, unstable fetch of post-frontal WNW flow continues Monday night. WNW flow will be strongest in the southern half of the Cascades and along the E slopes. These winds should remain in the moderate to strong range in many areas through the evening hours, but ease overnight. Shower activity and convergence (focused on the central Washington Cascades) picks up in the evening hours ahead of an upper low sliding down the coast, but this feature will ultimately cut off westerly flow from north to south. Convergence may shift between areas from just south of Snoqualmie Pass to just north of Stevens Pass before relenting overnight along with overall shower activity. The models seem to have the bulls-eye on Snoqualmie Pass, which could pick up 6-12" of snow overnight. Similar amounts of additional snow can be expected at Mt. Hood and Paradise, with 4-8" amounts for Stevens Pass and the southern Mountain Loop. Snow levels drop from below 2000 ft to near sea level, yielding high snow ratios.
Snow showers wind down very early Tuesday, with sunny skies expected across the region by the afternoon as an offshore ridge of high pressure works into the region. It will be a chilly day with freezing levels rising only to 1500-2500 ft by the afternoon.
Light N flow continues Tuesday night into Wednesday with clear weather and light winds contributing to a very chilly start to the day, particularly in deep valley locations. The ridge axis works into the region by the afternoon. Expect mostly sunny skies with high clouds moving in from the west associated with a stalled frontal system offshore.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The stalled front splits and with a subtle trough brushing NW Washington with some light snow showers Thursday on SW flow. The weak trough should pass over the area early Friday with light snow or weak convergence for the west slopes of the Cascades. Temperatures should be near seasonal norms.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
