Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Wednesday

Convective showers will continue to rotate inland this afternoon and early evening, emanating from a cold upper low offshore and enhanced by a shortwave trough swinging through the area. Showers are starting to clear the Cascade crest, and precipitation numbers have been updated to reflect more widespread shower activity along the east slopes of the Cascades. Snow showers may be moderate at times and mix with graupel. Showers will become scattered and taper off later this evening, hanging on for roughly the Mountain Loop to Mt. Baker area the longest overnight.

The remnants of the upper low in the form of an upper trough will pass through SW British Columbia/NW Washington on Sunday. This will create enough instability for the chance of afternoon showers in the mountains, particularly for the north Cascades (both sides of the crest) and over the Olympics. Mid-level and high-level clouds will pass through for areas south, keeping more clouds than sun in the forecast for all areas. Overall, temperatures will be a notch cooler on Sunday.

Weak upper level troughing will remain over the area on Monday but its grip will start to weaken. Expect more sun than clouds on Monday as temperatures and freezing levels moderate a bit.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Wednesday night through Wednesday

A frontal system will plow into south/central British Columbia Tuesday and Wednesday. Some light precipitation may glance the Olympics and north Cascades at times but mostly this system will increase cloud cover over Washington State. Mt. Hood may be far enough south to enjoy more in the way of sunshine. As an upper level ridge builds offshore and begins to push the dregs of the frontal system north on Wednesday, look for a warming trend to take hold.
