Weather Synopsis for Friday & Saturday

A strong jetstream sits over northern Oregon on Friday with a weak trough over the Pacific Northwest that continues to bring unstable air on westerly flow into the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures are seasonable temperatures for mid-December. Rain and snow activity may be locally intense, but the brunt of the major storm system that began on Wednesday has finished. The remaining activity should focus on the west slopes of the Washington Cascades which should receive variable amounts of precipitation, but generally less than 0.5" of water equivalent. Snow levels should remain around Snoqualmie Pass level throughout the day.

Models show a subtle shortwave feature associated with some deeper convection, which looks to be on track to arrive on Friday evening. Rain and snow should increase during the evening hours, particularly for the central Washington Cascades; some models indicating light snow reaching onto the east slopes of the Cascades. The heaviest snow is likely to be in convergence which may develop. The feature may shift winds slightly more southwesterly late Friday afternoon, before switching back westerly during the evening hours.

Saturday looks to be generally fair weather with very light snow showers tapering off.
