Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Sunday

A closed upper low off the Oregon/California coast-line is rotating a frontal band up through Oregon today and spreading high cloud into Washington State from the south. Areas currently under clear skies will see a general increase in high clouds that thicken faster for areas further south. Impressive offshore gradients for late March with the low pressure offshore and higher pressure inland is causing moderate east-southeast winds up to crest level from about Stevens Pass and south to Mt. Hood.  Offshore winds should relax this afternoon and further overnight.  Light rain and snow will impact the Mt. Hood area with a few inches of snow possible. As the frontal band lifts north overnight, it should shear and break up...resulting in generally light accumulations. Some upslope enhancement may help squeeze out an additional inch or two along the east slopes of the Cascades through Thursday morning.

The closed low complex will drift closer to the Pacific Northwest on Thursday.  Unstable atmospheric conditions will support mountain showers in the afternoon for all areas. The south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood have the best chance of more moderate showers with the slight chance of a thunderstorm as well.
