Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Friday

A shortwave upper level trough will exit the region stage right today with weak upper level ridging upstream of the Pacific Northwest transitioning us to drier weather. Leftover showers this morning along the west slopes of the Cascades, Olympics and Mt. Hood will wane through late morning. Cloud cover will be a tricky forecast today as a subsidence inversion (sinking air) helps trap low level moisture below Cascade crest level this afternoon. Skies will remain cloudy at Mt. Hood.

Clearer skies with dry weather should be seen this evening before high clouds begin to work their way up from the south later tonight.  An open trough will begin to rotate up light precipitation on Thursday, reaching Mt. Hood in the morning but taking all day to reach the Mt. Baker area. Cloud ceilings will slowly lower from south to north during the day as well. The flow aloft may be southerly, but moderate easterly flow will develop up to Cascade Crest level late tonight through Thursday.
