Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Soft Slab
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
3100'
Aspect:
NW
Comments:
multiple ~8" very soft storm slabs had run on small terrain features over 35 degrees. Appeared to have run during the night with an additional 8" on bed surfaces this morning. Dug a pit at 3900' on a north aspect. Overall snowpack was right side up. The new storm snow sat atop of a 2cm semi-translucent layer of what appeared to be decomposing fragments. This interface produced a resistant planar result in a compression test. Attached is a snow pit we dug. The middle snow pack was quite the mix of decomposing fragments, rounds, and facets.

Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No

Observations

16" of new low density snow. Stayed off and away from avalanche terrain. Limited terrain observed. Evidence of D1 storm slabs that had run overnight.
