Observations

Journeyed up Dirty Face mountain for a brisk but beautiful tour. We saw lots of surface hoar of varying sizes throughout the day- sometimes up to 5 mm. Small hand pits showed the Solstice crust about 40 cm down on the majority of aspects we traveled on. There was a slight inversion, and snow at 5,000 began to warm considerably- also the sun came out and we were on a South facing slope. Good skiing- but wind affected varied from aspect to aspect- makins some turns blower and others wind buffed. Did not experience any whumphing or cracking but saw pinwheels and some wet sluff.

Weather was cold. Started skiing by 8:30 and was 10 degrees. Day warmed considerably as we rose in elevation, and snow intermittently . Light winds and blowing snow.
