Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Broke 2.5 miles of cross-country skiing trail on the way to Suntop Lookout.

We did not dig a pit. 27.5" of powder above the road bed, 14" above a crust (possibly the 12/21 crust). Snow was soft and cohesive with no signs of instability. Temperatures were below freezing (28F). Light snow through 1300.

While the route to Suntop Lookout follows the road and is not steep, there are several avalanche paths along the way. Be sure to carry your avalanche gear with you.

Have a valid Washington State Sno-Park pass when parking at Suntop Sno-Park. The trail is not groomed, and the groomed ski sticker is not needed.
