Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

Observed evidence of east wind impacts on exposed ridge lines. Scouring seen in fetch zone and west facing cornices built with wind slabs below cornice. Noticeable density increase (from F in fetch zone to 4F in deposition zone) until 20m below ridge. Very small skier triggered slough from previous party seen.

It is interesting how little wind is needed create small wind slabs with low density snow. In the wrong place and time these can be big problems. Thankfully today wasn't the wrong time.
