Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Quick pit at 5000', W aspect, 35 degree slope on the edge separating upper Kendall Trees from Slide path revealed 160cm total snowpack. 15cm of fresh on top of a VERY firm 15cm melt/freeze crust from 12/18 warm front. Below that was very warm snow. Got a somewhat energetic and unexpected break while inserting shovel for a shear test at approx 30cm down. Everything above came with it.
