Advanced Observations

Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Wind Slab
Comments:
West facing slopes much further down from ridge line than normal are getting wind effect and loading. There was a crown approx 1 meter deep that appeared to propagate across the entire Super Bowl area, about 3/4 the way up the bowl. We stomped a few cornices off above Super Bowl and could not cause any slides, skied dog leg, nice soft snow at the top of the chute but wind slab starting about half way down, the apron at bottom of dog leg was wind loaded and stiff almost all the way to the lake. Skinned over to chicken head and started to see shooting cracks about half way up to the ridge. Common observation around 6k ft elevation and above was a new weak layer about 2-3 inches that we could get to slide on steeper slopes above 35.
