We began our day skinning up towards 10 minute, up the usual uphill route. We decided to conduct a quick column test given the uncertainty in the forecast throughout the zone. We found a small isolated north facing windloaded 30 degree slope to test just before hitting the pass. We dug a little less than 1m down, just getting past the significant crust. The top 6 inches had a sudden planar failure on the first 4 taps. We decided to ski low angle down, and found ourselves head over to iceberg across herman saddle and found better quality skiing snow. We found high variability in the snow pack and don't think this result would be relevant across the zone as a result.
